Humisoil emerges from a fundamental advancement in how food waste is processed.

Through our food rescue and distribution work, feeding people first, we generate organic material that would otherwise contribute to methane emissions in landfills.Instead, we’re pioneering a process we playfully call Back to the Future Composting.

Long before plants or trees existed, microbes pioneered photosynthesis. These microorganisms produce oxygen, generate moisture, and activate enzymatic processes that support life, from the ground up. By engaging these ancient systems, we unlock a continuous fermentation process that far surpasses traditional composting. In fact, this method is the world’s only zero-emissions composting process.

This proprietary process is called Groundswell, and has been refined over more than 30 years by our partners at VRM Biologik in Australia. Because 4DWN has built a reputation for pioneering solutions that align human wellbeing with ecological health, the opportunity to steward and scale this nature based technology found its way to us, and we embraced it.

Humisoil, a solar-powered soil enhancer, is the result–and we’ve already made mountains of it in partnership with Ruibals Plants in South Dallas!

When applied in small amounts to depleted or compacted soils, it reactivates biological life by stimulating microbial activity, generating moisture, and unlocking nutrients already present in the soil. Rather than adding synthetic inputs, Humisoil restores the soil’s innate capacity to function as a living system.
