SAFE SKATE SPACE
OVERVIEW
4DWN’s Safe Skate Space is a free after-school and weekend program designed to give youth and families a place to belong, move, and grow—together. Through skate lessons, group skate clinics, and community-centered events like birthday parties, 4DWN’s Safe Skate Space creates a sober, supportive environment where people can show up as they are and feel safe doing so. More than a skate program, it is a community hub rooted in dignity, access, and joy.
4DWN’s Safe Skate Space meets both individual and community needs by addressing safety, nourishment, connection, and self-expression. Participants have access to free food in a food desert, free internet in an infrastructure desert, and welcoming public recreation in a recreation desert. Set within a decaying industrial landscape, the space is intentionally reimagined as a place where nature, creativity, and community can thrive—proving that transformation is possible even in overlooked places.
4DWN’s Safe Skate Space is where recreation becomes restoration, community becomes family, and every roll forward is a step toward confidence, belonging, and self-actualization.
